What does the geography of incarceration in the United States look like? By aggregating and reassembling 5,393 satellite images of American prisons, jails, and detention centers, this work attempts to bring into relief an otherwise hidden landscape. According to The Washington Post, there are more jails and prisons in the US than degree-granting colleges and universities.
